Behind the Music

I want my album to evoke multiple feelings I associate with the book, including a sense of urgency of being adrift at sea and the feeling of respect and awe for mother nature, which can be both beautiful and cruel simultaneously.

In reading “Jail Without Bars,” I found it frightening that certain practices, like people being sent adrift to die at sea, still exist. David Mndolwa’s story of survival is particularly fascinating, and the description of the men hit by the storm out in the open sea is compelling.

About 7apes

7apes is a producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Berlin, Germany. His early participation in trip-hop, U.K.-electro, jazz, reggae and heavy metal bands, as well as his long-standing activity as a producer and songwriter for other artists, paved the way for his use of lush drum patterns, sloppy bass lines, jazzy chord progressions and futuristic synths. 7ape’s African roots are omnipresent in his rhythm heavy, sample fueled productions, with an unerring aim for the right vibe.

As an operative part of the network and label, 7apes calls Block Opera his home for his instrumental works.
