Behind the Music

Inspired by “Storming the Thunder,” I want my music to recreate the feeling of being in a storm. I use a hard trap style to make people feel as if they are in a storm at sea, surrounded by the pouring rain, thunder and loud sounds.

Through my music, I want to raise awareness about illegal fishing, which is damaging to the maritime ecosystem, and human trafficking, in which people are working as fishers and minors are being kidnapped and forced to work with no pay.

The Journalism behind the Music

All music in this project is based on The Outlaw Ocean, a New York Times Best-Selling book by Ian Urbina that chronicles lawlessness at sea around the world. This reporting touches on a diversity of abuses ranging from illegal and overfishing, arms trafficking at sea, human slavery, gun running, intentional dumping, murder of stowaways, thievery of ships and other topics.
