Behind the MusicArtist Bio

Diving into the stories of The Outlaw Ocean was an eye-opening experience — not just to the unlawful practices happening at sea that none of us are aware of, but to the stories of those that experience these maritime crimes first hand. I showcased the tumultuous chase of the Thunder experienced by the crew of the Bob Barker in “The Shadow Lands,” and the heart wrenching interview of an Indonesia woman in “Drowned Under.” These people inspire me and, as such, I tried to make each of my tracks match the feelings conveyed in each of their stories and the associated chapters.

Hugo Kant

Trip-hop, jazz, hip-hop, classical, ‘70s rock, dub and world music, Hugo Kant mixes all those genres to form a rich original and cohesive whole. A generous electronic music made with acoustic instruments, atmospheric sounds, strong rhythmics and catchy melodies. His project started in 2011 with the "Searching London" EP and "I Don't Want To Be An Emperor" album, followed by his "Leave Me Alone" EP (which had two tracks and remixes by The Herbaliser and Chinese Man) and "The Point Of No Return" album (which included three collabs with Kathrin De Boer, Astrid Engberg and LostPoet) in 2013 and 2014. His third album, “Out Of Time,” saw the light of the day in 2017. At the same time he collaborated with artists including The Herbaliser, Ancient Astronauts and many others.
