Behind the Music

It’s important for projects to have a strong and rooted concept — be it visual or emotional — to start with for music to have an impact. The Outlaw Ocean Music Project is such a solid concept with infinite possibilities and inspirations. Personally I love everything and anything involving the Earth’s oceans, and I always try to make music that appeals to nostalgia, imagination and feelings. With this project, it could be the sensations of being on a ship in the water or becoming hypnotized watching the waves undulate along the coast.

I’m so fortunate to be part of this endeavor along with so many other talented artists. This music project is a fantastic and innovative way of not only bringing people together, but to showcase the different ways in which people can be inspired.

Hello Meteor
About Hello Meteor

Hello Meteor is an electronic musician based in Seattle. His layered instrumentals bring together ambient, almost atonal atmospheres with lush synthscapes that have been described as “a mood altering pill on your brain.” Reminiscent of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and somehow modern at the same time, his music manages to weave the two timelines effortlessly in his contemplative and serene compositions.

The Journalism behind the Music

All music in this project is based on The Outlaw Ocean, a New York Times Best-Selling book by Ian Urbina that chronicles lawlessness at sea around the world. This reporting touches on a diversity of abuses ranging from illegal and overfishing, arms trafficking at sea, human slavery, gun running, intentional dumping, murder of stowaways, thievery of ships and other topics.
