Behind the Music

Before this project, I was unaware of the extent of the tragedies that take place at sea every day. Therefore, I hope that my music can help many people discover this topic. I capture various emotions in my work; on one hand, the music reflects aggressiveness and sadness but on the other, it reflects hope. Music gives you the opportunity to reach people and move them in a more positive direction. It definitely has the power to make our world a better place.

All music in this project is based on The Outlaw Ocean, a New York Times Best-Selling book by Ian Urbina that chronicles lawlessness at sea around the world. This reporting touches on a diversity of abuses ranging from illegal and overfishing, arms trafficking at sea, human slavery, gun running, intentional dumping, murder of stowaways, thievery of ships and other topics.
